Abstract
There are specific design details that can make a radioactive material package closure relatively easy to leak test quickly, economically, and with high testing confidence. Conversely, there are design details that can make the package closure difficult to test. Testing difficulties that stem from the design details may make the leak testing operation unnecessarily time consuming to complete, with testing results that have a low test confidence. This paper will present a number of principles and design details that make for robust package closures that are economical to test rapidly with high test confidence. The paper will include specific examples that may be of benefit to the designer, and subsequently to the package owner and user.
