Abstract
The Savannah River Site (SRS) Transportation Safety Document (TSD) demonstrates compliance to the safety basis requirements of DOE O 460.1D for offsite shipments and onsite transfers of hazardous materials. TSD safety assessment methodology uses a graded approach based on the associated risk of the material. Onsite Safety Assessments (OSAs) provide the analyses and controls to demonstrate safety equivalency for transfers of radioactive material within the site boundaries. OSAs may employee deterministic or risk-based type methodologies to demonstrate compliance. Non-radioactive hazardous materials are transferred onsite as either DOT compliant packagings or through an equivalency. Safety equivalent requirements for SRS onsite transfers are discussed.
