Abstract
As part of its task to confirm that Department of Energy (DOE) field offices provide levels of security and safeguards commensurate with defined threats, the DOE Office of Security Evaluations (OSE) conducts inspections of the nuclear materials control and accountability (MC&A) systems at DOE facilities throughout the United States. Inspections are based on the DOE Safeguards and Security Standards and Criteria, tailored to the specific assets at and threats to each individual site. This paper reviews the process of inspecting MC&A systems during the planning, preinspection, and inspection/ reporting phases.
