Abstract
As you know, the AEC published a comment in the Federal Register on March 5, major revision in Parts 70 and 71, on licensing and on shipment of special nuclear materials. They also published minor amendments to Part 40 on source materials and Part 72, which is concerned with the design of casks for the shipment of irradiated fuel. We made a sounding as we often do in the Forum of our membership to see what the interest was, and if there was, should we get a group together to look the proposed regulations over. There was no question but what there was some interest there. So we convened a seminar on April 17 and we forwarded a letter to the Commission on May 14. I would like to just give you some of the essential elements of the letter that we transmitted to the AEC reflecting the comments that were generated in the seminar. You might also find it of interest to note who took part in this seminar. The list is not very long and you might find it of interest. Ed Barnes of Westinghouse, R. H. Boutelle of Martin, Fred Forscher of NUMEC (I am expecting Fred to have a few words later), Walt Hamilton of United Nuclear, Bill Hayman of Allis Chalmers, R. J. Herbert of Associated Nucleonics, Doc Jones, and I am expecting he will have a few words to say today, of B & W, Bill Leaders of Kerr-McGee, Art Matheson of General Atomic, Lou Medin of Nuclear Safeguard, Stan Reese of Nuclear Fuel Services, Saul Sandhaus of Nuclear Utility Services, L. Scheib of AMF, Bob Thorburn of GE, R. A. Vandegrift of Dow, and Lou Weissert also of B & W.
