Abstract
Program chairman Shelley Kops gave me leeway on my topic, and I am taking advantage of it to talk about a phase of computer systems that I feel very strongly about. My subject this morning is the \"Widespread Neglect of the Input Cycle in Business Systems.\" For the purposes of my presentation, the Business Systems I will refer to will be limited to batch processing systems on third-generation computers. This, of course, covers the vast majority of computer systems in operation today, but does not include on-line systems. The term \"Input Cycle\" in the title of my talk needs further clarification; my definition of Input Cycle is the first slide (see attachment for complete set of slides); Input Cycle All functions and operations pertaining to the feeding of data to a system, including those portions of the computer processing relating to editing and file updating.
