Abstract
The organization of the EURATOM-Advisory laboratory for monitoring Pu-contaminated solid waste streams is explained. The contents of a handbook for the design and analysis of monitoring systems is briefly reviewed. Emphasis is given to the concept of reference monitors and to principles and theory of radiometric assay, being the fundamentals of Pu-waste monitoring.
