A Ultrasonic Method for Measurement of 070 Concentration

A correlation of the velocity of sound with mole percent of heavy water in D20-H20 mixtures has been measured using a modified commercially available instrument. This is being developed as a practical method for the analysis of heavy water stored in 2105. drums. The drums need not be opened, and measurements can be made under field conditions. The application of this method would permit quick, in-field verification of drum contents in production or user facilities without having to violate drum seals.
