Abstract
Implementation of more stringent access and nonitorinq controls for Special Nuclear Materials is being mandated by recent changes in applicable regulations. Expedient compliance with these regulations, requires the implementation of a secure monitoring system that can be readily obtained. The user specifications for this system listed specific access, security, annunciation and reporting requirements that could not be found in any single off-the-shelf units considered. Based on this, the Controlled Access Material Monitoring System (CAMMS) was developed. CAMMS consists of readily available products from three different manufacturers, integrated into a single, easy to use system. Using these components, CAMHS provides proximity card access, a supervised security access and monitoring system, and four types of monitoring and alarm annunciation. Additionally, it is composed of equipment that is used in other areas of security at Rocky Flats, and therefore will require less training for maintenance personnel and a smaller spare parts inventory.
