Abstract
This paper considers a mathematical model of a photo neutron interrogation device for the mea- surement of 235u. The model includes the calibra- tion and normalization of the instrument. The mathematical model is used to study the effective- ness of different calibration curve estimators. The effectiveness of the calibration curve esti- mator is related to the systematic error of mea- surement. The paper also presents a number of ge- neral results related to the design of calibration experiments. These cover the effects of the number of calibration standards, the renormalization strategy and the optimal assignment of count times. The work is discussed in the context of inspector resource optimization in inventory veri- fication planning.
