Abstract
The Department of Energy's Order governing management of radioactive waste, DOE Order 5820.2A, was revised effective September 26, 1988. The Order contains prescriptive requirements for managing high-level, transuranic, low-level and NARM wastes as well as decontamination and decommissioning of facilities. These requirements ensure that all DOE radioactive and mixed waste will be managed in a systematic manner to achieve required performance. This paper will summarize the requirements of the Order and discuss the Department's schedule to achieve full compliance with the requirements.
