Abstract
A nondestructive assay (NDA) measurement survey program has been established at Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to support decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) activities at the shutdown facility. The program's objective is to develop and to implement NDA measurement techniques for estimating the residual uranium contained in the diffusion process equipment and ancillary piping of the shutdown process buildings onsite. Measurement techniques are described, support programs (e.g., technician training, hardware development, and quality assurance) are detailed, and results are summarized. The organization, development, and implementation of a large-scale NDA measurement survey program to provide reliable process holdup data for D&D activities is being successfully demonstrated.
