Abstract
1. Safeguards in Japan Research, development and utilization of nuclear energy in Japan have been carried out only for peaceful purposes according to the provisions of the Atomic Energy Basic Act promulgated on December 9, 1955. Based on this principle of the Act, related laws and regulations have been enacted, such as the "Law for Regulation of Nuclear Source Materials, Nuclear Fuel Materials and Nuclear Reactors" (hereinafter referred to as "Law for Regulation of Nuclear Reactors, etc.") which obligate facility operators to carry out proper management and control of nuclear materials.
