Abstract
The Westinghouse Hanford Company Nuclear Material Custodian Evaluation Program is an integrated process which consists of Safeguards audits of material balance areas (MBAs), performance evaluation ratings of Primary Nuclear Material Custodians (Custodians) based upon the information gathered during the audits, and a method for implementing the evaluation by impacting performance appraisals for Custodians based upon the evaluation. Westinghouse Hanford Company Safeguards holds Custodians responsible for Safeguards related activities in their respective MBAs. Therefore, MBA audits are an effective means of evaluating Custodian performance.
