Abstract
The need in the Safeguards context for non-destructive analysis of heterogeneous solid wastes containing isotopes of Uranium and Plutonium is discussed and the technical problems of active and passive measurement systems are considered. A family of instruments designed to permit the assay of waste materials is described and their capabilities and limitations are explained.
