Abstract
Davison Chemical Division has become heavily involved in uranium scrap processing. Scrap materials resulting from the production of fuel materials as well as from fuel element fabrication are treated for recovery of contained uranium (non-irradiated) at our Nuclear Reactor Materials Plant (NRMP) at Erwin, Tennessee. At the same location there is a facility for the separation of U-233 from U-232 daughter products, preliminary to fabrication of U-233. Recently W. R. Grace & Company has become involved with the Industrial Reprocessing Group (IRG), a group of companies conducting a study of the technical and economic feasibility of building and operating a private facility for the reprocessing of spent fuel elements. The following presents an outline review of the status of these scrap processing projects.
