Abstract
The Ministry of the Russian Federation for Atomic Energy (Minatom) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) are engaged in joint, cooperative efforts to establish the Russian Methodological and Training Center (RMTC) to provide training in nuclear materials protection, control and accounting (MPC&A) topics. In addition, the Federal Nuclear and Radiation Safety Authority (Gosatomnadzor) and the DOE are jointly engaged in developing a graduate program in MPC&A at Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI) and a training program for inspectors who work for Gosatomnadzor. This paper discusses the purpose and the accomplishments of each of these training and education projects. It also outlines future directions for training and education initiatives within the Russian Federation (RF).
