The Nonproliferation Support Program was established in the Department of Energy, O&ce of Safeguards and Security on October 1,1995. Its mission includes providing assistance to Depmhmmtal ei%lxtsfor improved international material protectiq control and accounting programs by coordMing and leveraging domestic safeguards and seeurity policy, practice and experience into the international arem A major objective of the program is to balance United States national security requirements with global support of the nonprolifization objectives. This paper describes the organization of the Oflice of Sdeguards and Security and the Nonproliferation Support Program role and nxponsibility, and presents some of the an-rent areas of program emphasis and activity.
