Abstract
Euratom has obtained an extensive experience of installed instrumentation in a variety of nuclear facilities within the 15 member states of the European Union. This paper describes the current thinking and status of installed measurement systems. It will outline the experience gained based upon the practical implementation and proposed developments in the immediate future in different environments. Unattended operation of measurement systems is essential in modem facilities due to the limited access opportunities and the need to rationalize the available human resources for inspection purposes. Operation and maintenance of these unattended systems has highlighted certain problem areas associated with the individual applications and the need for standardization. The developments in the integration of the installed systems and the treatment of the collected data as well as the results of the combination ofNDA measurements and associated video images are examined. The use of software tools in object detection continue to be explored as a potential future direction in the application of data treatment in unattended systems.
