STEPS IN UPGRADING OLDER NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS TO MEET CURRENT REQUIREMENTS ON PHYSICAL PROTECTION

On behalf of the licensing authorities GRS has been assessing the physical protection plans and measures of nuclear facilities and transports of nuclear material in Germany for more than twenty years. The upgrading of existing nuclear facilities is an important domain of GRS. In this field GRS acts in an advisory capacity also in the CIS and CEEC States. This paper shows the philosophy of upgrading physical protection in Germany illustrated on some representative examples.
