Abstract
The Laser Surveillance System is a safeguard system designed for use at Spent Fuel Storage Pools. Two beams of blue light scan an underwater plane just covering the assemblies in the storage racks. When an assembly penetrates this plane of light, the system response changes and the computer controller calculates the position in the pool of the disturbance. A full-scale laser system has been constructed and tested in a 9 x 14 m pool and found to perform very well. Installation of a new computer will allow 15 sec scan rates in preparation for field tests later this year.
