Abstract
All nuclear facilities require some form of personnel screening for security purposes for the prevention of weapons carried into a facility and nuclear materials carried out. In most cases, separate systems are used for entrance and exit screening. Upon entrance, walk-through metal detectors screen for weapons. Upon exit radiation detectors designed to respond to small amounts of SNM are used which are frequently backed up by a highsensitivity metal detector designed to respond to any metal shielding which might be used to conceal a small amount of SNM. A single-station system with dual program capability to perform both functions at a single checkpoint can be utilized in facilities in which all persons enter and exit at the same point. This paper describes a system implemented for this purpose including required performance specifications for security compliance and real-world operating experience.
