Abstract
I'm pleased to be with you again this year to share in discussing what, Is surely our most important scientific and social concern: the safe management of nuclear materials. You men and women of INMM have a unique stewardship to perform for this nation and for mankind: a profound and awesome responsibility to perfect safer and saner ways to use and control the atom. As you are well aware, the participants in today's nuclear debate seem to be at odds about almost everything. And within this debate you may not always feel that the politicians, the press, and the public understand and support your work. But there's one thing I'm sure all sides in this controversy do share - - a deep respect for your good faith and good efforts.
