Abstract
As part of the US Department of Energy/Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute reseamh cooperation, a hybrid K-edge/x-my fluorescencedensitometer was developed and fabricated by Los Alamos National Laboratory. The instrument, designed for accountability measurements and for International Atomic Energy Agency inspections, was installed at the analytical laboratory of Nuclear Fuel Cycle Safety Engineering Research Facility in 1994. The system was calibrated with uranium solutions in 1995. This paper will describe the features of the instrument. We will also discuss the calibration of the instrument and compare the techniques of hybrid densitometry and chemical analysis for measuring routine samples.
