Abstract
The Safeguards Division of JNSB and the Agency developed Inspection Field Support System (IFSS) which utilized laptop computers as part of rationalization of inspection activities at nuclear facilities. In order to perform implementation test of the system at a LEU bulk handling facility, Japan Nuclear Fuel Company (JNF) was selected. JNF developed software to provide various information required for the IFSS to verify the general ledger, compare reports with records during flow verification, and calculate the sample size at a physical inventory verification by means of an inspector's laptop computer. As a result of practical use of the system for the flow verification and feasibility test at the September 1989 JNF physical inventory verification, it was confirmed that this system is an effective measure for both the inspectorate and the operator, and the objective of the system is accomplished as expected by the inspectorate.
