Abstract
The availability of a 12,500 square foot plutonium facility, constructed and equipped with private funds, is an important addition to Atomics Inter- national's comprehensive nuclear fuel processing and fabrication capabilities. The design criteria established for this facility contained not only the normal commercial laboratory requirements but also the special safety features in air handling, monitoring, and material containment required for the safe handling of plutonium materials. An important criterion was a built-in flexibility to permit processing of different alloys and compounds of plutonium, as the need arises.
