Abstract
In nuclear plant and other strategically important situations where leading edge technology is employed, protection of property by secure access control is one consideration and the management of personnel together with their safety is another. The ideal system will satisfy both needs. In pursuit of this objective, Newmark Technology has developed a patented Automatic Identification System using a CRYPTAG (tm) and an associated reader product range called PASSPOINT (tm) which addresses Access Control, Personnel Tracking or both. The principal feature of this invention is the ability to read each and every tag presented at the same time to any Passpoint reader. This can happen at the rate of up to 10 each second from many thousands of Users in any system. This is called 'Multiple Reading'. This 'Multiple Reading1 capability means that range can be extended without introducing artificial limitations on the way the system is implemented.Passpoint Systems are already in use in the UK and several other European countries. In Access Control we have provided Inward and Outward reading plus optional PIN.Clearly this powerful new capability in automatic identification creates new problems besides solving others. Some of these will be highlighted and discussed. 'Tailgating' will not be overlooked.
