Abstract
A spent nuclear fuel verification plan has been developed and issued by DOE=s Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM). OCRWM=s responsibilities under the Standard Contract for the Disposal of Spent Nuclear Fuel and/or High-Level Radioactive Waste to verify spent fuel prior to acceptance, as well as applicable NRC safeguards and security regulations, were examined. The mechanisms available to collect and verify the information needed for OCRWM to meet its responsibilities were also reviewed. The planned verification process will collect information concerning the type, quantity, and nature of materials to be accepted, confirm that the information collected is complete, and document certain physical attributes of the material, including identity. Once collected and verified, the information will be used by OCRWM to demonstrate that appropriate safeguards are in place.
