Abstract
I am very pleased to speak at the fifth Annual Meeting of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management. I represented AECL at last year's meeting and found the program extremely helpful. Before proceeding directly into the topic of Nuclear Materials Management I would like to comment on the three main Canadian Government Atomic Energy agencies, the Atomic Energy Control Board, Eldorado Mining and Refining Ltd. and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and their role in the Canadian program. The Atomic Energy Control Board directly responsible to the Canadian Government, controls and supervises all aspects of the application and use of atomic energy in Canada. This wide definition includes for example granting licences to operate reactors, licences for the use of radio-isotopes, approving the transportation, importing and exporting of fissionable material, etc. The Board accomplishes this by issuing and administrating a system of regulations.
