Abstract
Proposed U. S. Department of Energy orders will require measurement of the amount of pJutonium in shipments between sites more rapidly than is normally possible using conventional destructive analysis techniques. Assay of plutonium shipments received at the Savannah River Plant (SRP) has been accomplished nondestructively using neutron counting, calorimetry, and gamma spectrometry. This combination of techniques has enabled confirmatory measurements of entire shipments as the material it received and provided assay values for these shipments within 10 working days. Shipperreceiver differences have been 0.07 to 0.32% of the total quantity of plutonium in the shipments using this combination of techniques.
