Abstract
Nondestructive gamma-ray and neutron techniques have been investigated to determine their applicability to the characterization of irradiated LWR fuel assemblies for safeguards. MTR, BWR, and PWR assemblies have been examined. Relative cooling times and burnup values are correlated with operatordeclared values. Various gamma-ray techniques have been developed to rapidly measure the axial burnup profile for calculating the integral burnup of individual fuel assemblies.
