Abstract
The USAEC has recently established a new organizational component to manage its nuclear materials which are currently valued at several billion dollars. The optimum use of resources, both materials and funds, requires long-term planning involving the variety of programs under the responsibility of the AEC. Accountability, as historically defined, plays an important role in this new management function. The best use of materials requires consideration of many options for analysis by management and an identification of the risks associated with alter- native courses of action.
