Abstract
In the summer of 1971 the Gulf Mobile Assay System visited the National Reactor Testing Station to conduct assay measurements. The wide variety of material on inventory at NRTS provided an excellent opportunity to extend further the range of GAMAS applications. Specifically, this was the first opportunity to assay large quantities (1-5 kg per container) of production- type material. Statistically significant measurements could be made quickly on these materials; consequently, for most cases the entire inventory, not just a random sampling, of a specific material was measured. Materials in- cluded in the assay measurements were U02 powder, PBF fuel pellets, Rover fuel elements, uranium aluminide powder, ETR and ATR fuel assemblies and ATR fuel plates. All of these measurements were conducted in conjunction with the inventory verification measurements of the AEC Idaho Operations Office. In addition to these assays a rapid survey assay was made on 200 plutonium waste barrels in a period of 3-1/2 days.
