INTERNATIONAL SAFEGUARDS INSPECTOR: A PROFESSION WITH A FUTURE?

Abstract
The work of a safeguards inspector of the IAEA is described in its professional, technical and personal aspects. The prerequisities for employment are indicated, the present inspectorate of the Agency is described, the working conditions of inspectors are explained in respect of contractual conditions, remuneration, actual working conditions (inspection travel and headquarters work), career expectations and tenure. An assessment is attempted of such working conditions and their adequacy to attract qualified professionals to the Agency.
