Abstract
The need for comprehensive safeguards audit programs is becoming increasingly significant in the current safeguards environment. Indeed, with the complexity and diversity of today's safeguards requirements, effective audits are mandated by sound business practice. Today's facility management must have accurate and timely data concerning the status of plant safeguards systems performance. Appropriately structured and implemented internal safeguards audits can, and should, provide management with a consistently reliable source for these data. A unique internal safeguards audit program has been developed and implemented by the corporate safeguards audit staff of the Nuclear Energy Division of the General Electric Company, to meet the need for effective audit, and accurate, timely reporting to management. It is the intent of this paper to present a summary ol I hi? concepts from which this unique audit program has evolved.
