IMPLEMENTATION OF LON BASED APPLICATIONS FOR SAFEGUARDS

Abstract
The uses of the LON, “Local Operating Network”, developed by Echelon Corporation, Palo Alto, California, has been expanded to handle a number of safeguards applications. A magnetic and vibration sensor pack has been developed to monitor for magnetic fields and vibration. This sensor pack can be attached to any source that generates a magnetic field, such as electrical solenoids or motors, to detect when the source is activated. New network nodes that interface directly with the raw data of Sandiadeveloped radiation sensors, for detecting the presence of radiation sources, have been developed. The capacity of the network has been expanded to allow the transmission of large data sets, specifically the transmission of digital video images from the %ndia-developed Image Compression and Authentication Module (ICAM).
