Abstract
The IAEA Stieguards Research& Development and Implementation Support (R&D and IS) Programrne dates back to 1969. Over the years it has expanded in scope and magnitude in keeping with the growth in safeguards implementation by the Agency. The programme provides the means for maintaining stateof- the-art technical capability in implementing safeguards. The Member State Support Programmed (MSSPS) is a major contributor in developing and testing new concepts, techniques and procedures and providing support in the Agency’s implementation thereof. The evolution of the programme is presented along with its structure and content.
