Abstract
Nondestructive assay (NDA) procedures have been developed to measure the 235U and total U content of scrap and waste material from a gaseous diffusion plant. The assay techniques use transmission measurements of the 110-, 130-, 177-, 198-, and 308-keV gamma rays from a Yb source. The NDA assay agrees with the wet chemical assay within the uncertainty of two separate assays for more than 90% of the samples. Discrepancies are believed to be due to the heterogeneity of the material and the resulting sampling errors.
