Abstract
The strong national commitment to nuclear power is creating a firm demand for uranium which will last for many years. A large expansion of the producing industry will be required to meet this commitment. Domestic production of UjOg between 1948 and 1974 totalled about 300,000 tons. The total lifetime requirements for nuclear plants in operation, under construction, and on order at this time total almost one million tons of U^Og. Moreover, some two million tons may be needed to satisfy the nuclear portion of domestic power requirements through the year 2000. On an annual basis, some 50,000 tons of U^Og may be needed in 1985 compared to the 1975 production forecast of 12,000 tons.
