Abstract
In the spent fuel receiving and storage area of the Tokai Reprocessing Plant, the spent fuel, which is enclosed with the storage basket container, is stored for cooling in the spent fuel storage pool for a long time. Some safeguards measures are required in order to prove that the spent fuel has not been diverted during its storage. As one of the measures, the feasibility of an underwater sealing system, which is useful for rationalizing and reducing safeguards inspection work and, at the same time, has enough reliability on safeguards, has been being investigated. The results of its study and problems identified are described here.
