Abstract
Radiological security is essential for protecting radioactive materials from loss, theft, or misuse, ensuring public safety and environmental protection. In Brazil, the CNEN NN 2.06 standard, established in November 2019, provides guidelines for implementing physical protection measures that align with international frameworks, particularly those of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The regulation addresses the classification of radioactive facilities, access controls, and response protocols for security breaches. This paper examines the CNEN NN 2.06 standard's role in Brazil's regulatory framework, highlighting its contributions to radiological security while identifying gaps such as limited focus on cybersecurity, insider threats, and emerging technologies. By addressing these challenges, the standard could further enhance Brazil's ability to safeguard radioactive materials. The analysis aims to provide insights into the standard’s impact and stimulate discussions on future improvements in radiological security.
