Abstract
My speech to you today is about energy. I will talk about why it is important and why it is controversial. It will be important to our children and theirs, because the world in which they will live will face serious issues that involve energy. I know it will be important because my generation did a pretty good job of engineering and science, particularly in the United States, Europe, Japan, and in a number of other nations, but we did not do a good enough job of explaining it. The key issues will involve fuels, electricity, demand, and the recently emerging concept of \"sustainable development\". The future of nuclear power will be the lightning-rod, just as it has been for the past three decades.
