Abstract

INMM 2020 Annual Meeting Cross-Cutting Topic: NUCLEAR SECURITY & PHYSICAL PROTECTION »Technologies and Methods » Emerging Technologies The proposed paper will provide a summary of current activities and planned next steps under DOE NNSA Office of International Nuclear Security (INS) Emerging Threats and Technologies Working Group (ETTWG). The ETTWG has recently developed a set of recommendations that leverage expertise of U.S. national laboratories in assessing emerging technologies, threats and opportunities that have a potential to significantly impact international nuclear security in the next 5 to 10 years. In 2019-2020, ETTWG completed a number of detailed technical studies on prioritized emerging threats and technologies relevant to INS mission space. The ETTWG studies identified and analyzed select set of emerging technologies and threats in the context of international nuclear security, and assisted INS in overall threat and technology assessment and prioritization efforts. The authors will review proposed courses of actions and describe specific activities that have already been implemented by INS teams, as a result of the studies and subsequent recommendations by the U.S national laboratories and DOE NNSA experts.
