Abstract
Annual fuel cycle costs are presented for a model 1,000 MWe pressurized water reactor operating in the United States under prevailing economic conditions. Based on the costs presented, it was concluded that reprocessing of spent fuel and recycle of recovered uranium and plutonium is not economical at the present time. Areas of prospective cost reduction in reprocessing and recycle are discussed. Non-economic advantages of, and concerns for, reprocessing and recycle are identified.
