Abstract
CAVIS-2 is the second generation of Computer Aided Video Surveillance systems developed at the JRC Ispra for the programmed, multiplexed recording of up to 16 video signals during extended periods of unattended optical surveillance. CAVIS-2 is designed to continue its recording task as long as possible and to restore the proper operating conditions automatically whenever needed. The system performs a comprehensive self-checking and reports the results in a data file. CARES is the review station for CAVIS tapes. Its main functions comprise the display of the alarm history, the selection of a time pointer in the surveillance period, the winding of the tape to the scenes belonging to that pointer and, last but not least, the tape reviewing itself. The latter function allows the simultaneous display of scenes from several cameras in different segments of the monitor screen and offers full recorder control for tape positioning and speed selection.
