Case study of radiation emergency in Armenia with significant contamination and radiological consequences

Abstract
The paper provides a case study of radiological emergency situation happened in Armenia in 2009, that cause significant radiological consequences, contamination of large amount of goods and materials, including personal properties and internal contamination of few persons, because of damaging the Cs137 industrial source. The paper describes overall emergency response and coordination mechanisms, starting from identification of emergency, characterization and assessment of consequences and remediation actions, as well as analysis of challenges and lesson learned. As a response actions the detailed characterization of contaminated areas and materials were implemented. Large amount of contaminated soil, goods and other materials were transported to storage facility.
