Abstract
A passive gamma assay system has been developed for an accurate analysis of \"calcined ash\" samples containing 235U. The method emphasizes the use of thin homogeneous samples and utilizes an automatic sample changer for long counting periods. Transmission measurements are made first with 7°9Yb followed by passive measurement of 235U alone. Data from as many as twenty samples can be acquired and stored for later data analysis. This method can be applied to analysis situations where it is not practical to prepare standards to match the physical properties of each sample analyzed.
