Abstract
Recently the Department of Energy and the Los Alamos National Laboratory have emphasized the transfer of state-of-the-art non destructive assay (NDA) technology to the private sector, to expedite useful applications. A specific example of this process is occurring in a current decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) project involving a former mixed oxide (MOX) (PuO2-UO2) fuel fabrication facility operated by Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) at Erwin, Tennessee. An integrated five-station NDA system has been designed and implemented at this facility to provide multiple support functions.
