Abstract
The paper explores what lessons can be drawn from the process and framework of negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for crisis resolution on the Korean Peninsula. Particular focus is put on aspects related to conflict mediation and trust building during the early stages of the negotiations and their applicability to efforts aimed at restarting multilateral dialogue with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Conclusions are drawn from an analysis of semi-structured interviews with key negotiating practitioners involved in the JCPOA crafting process.
