Abstract

As the Savannah River Site (SRS) celebrates its 70 th anniversary it has become important to examine the future of H-Canyon missions in addition to celebrating past successes. H-Canyon began hot operations in 1955 and performed remote nuclear materials separations for over 40 years to support national defense. The facility then transitioned to a nonproliferation mission to safely stabilize and disposition proliferable special nuclear materials. With the flexibility for the H-Canyon facility to perform a variety of missions important to the nation, it is necessary to continuously evaluate potential options for the spent nuclear fuel stored at SRS.
