Abstract
New requirements for the physical protection of special nuclear material against theft andnuclear plants against industrial sabotage were published in effective form on November 6, 1973. The new require- ments applied to licensees who are authorized to use or possess at any site or contiguous sites special nuclear material consisting of uran- ium-233, plutonium, or uranium enriched to 20% or more in the U-235 isotope in a quantity of 5,000 grams or more as computed by the formula grams = grams U-235 + 2.5 (grams U-233 + grams Pu).
